Chiropractic Technique on Back Right Shoulder
  • Low force adjustments. Low force adjustments are a safe and gentle way to adjust the spine, cranium, and visceral organs. They include cranio-sacral, visceral manipulation, counter-strain, muscle energy, myofascial release, arthro-stim, and percussor methods. Although we focus primarily on low force adjustments, we also do traditional chiropractic adjustments when needed.

  • Massage therapy. Therapeutic massage helps release muscle tension – and it feels great, too!

  • Laser therapy. Laser therapy uses light to speed up the healing of damaged tissues.

  • Micro-current stimulation. This form of electrical acupuncture uses specific electrical frequencies applied to different parts of the body to help heal the tissues.

  • Scenar electro-stim. A Russian electrical stimulator, the scenar is our latest favorite tool. This handheld device houses a sophisticated computer that uses biofeedback from the skin to locate pain hot spots. Once the hot spots are found, the scenar then emits a gentle current to release the soft tissue.

  • Cranio-sacral therapy. Cranio-sacral therapy gently manipulates the cranial bones and muscles to ease restricted nerve passages and allow unobstructed movement of the cerebrospinal fluid.

  • Rehabilitation exercises. Rehabilitation exercises teach your body new ways of holding itself. We’ll guide you through the right exercises for different stages of your healing, teaching you stretching, core stabilization, strengthening, and micro-movement without overwhelming you.

  • Soft tissue release. Used by both the doctors and the massage therapists at Southern Oregon Sports & Spine, soft tissue therapies encourage tense muscles to release their tight hold. Sometimes they need strong stimulation with deep-tissue massage or the Graston technique; other times, gentler methods such as soft massage or myofascial release are needed.

  • Kinesio tape. A marvelous form of taping, Kinesio tape is a comfortable, waterproof, non-latex rehabilitative tape applied over and around the muscles. It re-educates the neuromuscular system, promotes lymphatic flow, reduces pain, enhances performance, prevents injury, and promotes injury resolution.

  • Graston technique. This technique utilizes special stainless steel massage instruments to break down tissue adhesions and stimulate the healing of old injuries.

  • Coccyx adjustment. Dr. Marc Heller is one of the few chiropractors in the nation offering coccyx adjustment. Become pain-free without unnecessary surgery! Read about the procedure here.

We are always educating ourselves about the latest advances in pain management, so this list will continue to grow.

Each and every body has the innate ability to heal itself.

Patient Receiving Neck Adjustment

Our job as chiropractors is to help your body do what it knows how to do to feel better but has temporarily forgotten. In difficult or chronic cases, we look beyond the obvious causes to unearth what hidden factors might be contributing your suffering.

Because most pain involves multiple factors, our approach to resolving it is threefold.

  • First, we provide gentle, low force adjustments to the joints. Misaligned joints or vertebrae are the root cause of many types of pain.
  • Second, we offer soft tissue therapies, which allow your muscles to release their tight hold. Not only will you feel more relaxed, but oxygen and nutrients will have an easier time reaching your muscles, allowing them to heal.
  • Third, we teach you how to take care of your body, with rehabilitation exercises and stretches specifically geared to your condition. Teaching your body new ways of holding itself is key to a life without pain.

Our integrated three-step approach to pain resolution gives you the best possible chances of leaving behind the postural patterns that cause you pain.

Spine and Pain Portal

We are all about helping you solve your back and neck pain. We bring our combined 55 years of experience to the table. Our approach starts with diagnosis. First, we will figure out what is wrong with you, and then design a program to correct it. That means the treatment and the rehab exercises will be different from one patient to another. Your pain and its causes are unique to you. In difficult or chronic pain, it often takes a combination of treatments to solve the problem. You can be assured that we will not do the same things over-and-over forever. Our goal is to get you back in the game, back to yourself, as quickly as humanly possible.

We have many tools we use. We often start with low force adjustments. This means we may not “pop” you, but will use gentler forms of mobilization to realign and reset your spinal joints. When one area is stuck, the body goes through a series of changes, so we will look at the joints and muscles nearby, to see what else is pulling on you.

Pain is a liar! The pain you feel in your shoulder could be coming from tight fascia in your chest or from the nerves in your lower neck, or from the upper ribs in your back. Addressing the muscles is an essential part of our approach. Your body compensates when you hurt. Some muscles are going to get too tight; some are going to get weak. We work together with our massage therapists, to help release the tight places, using many techniques, including ART, Graston technique, and various forms of myofascial release. When the muscles are imbalanced, you stop moving properly, reinforcing the bad movement habits. We will teach you exercises designed to help you move better, and restore your flexibility and strength.

What about the nerves? When you hurt, it is your nerves giving your brain a wrong signal. We will assess what nerves are unhappy, and help quiet them. This can involve treating the spine, where the nerves originate. We also address the irritated nerves directly using laser, our advanced Russian E-stim devices, and hands-on nerve release work.
